Residents of New Deeper Life, Olaiya and Saw Mill communities in
Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State have cried out over incessant electricity
power supply in the area.
The people, who spoke with Community News, appealed to relevant
authorities to provide them with immediate succour to ensure security of
lives and property, as well as promote socio-economic life in the area.
The residents, who said they had been in perpetual darkness for the
past one month, added that the power supply problem was caused by faulty
transformer which supply electricity to the communities.
The people also said that the transformer serving the communities was
overloaded and called on the management of Power Holding Company of
Nigeria (PHCN) to come to their assistance.
Two of the community leaders in the area, Alhaji Dauda Ilobu and
Alhaji Hammed Olanrewaju, said despite series of requests made for a
new transformer, the state government, through the Commissioner for
Energy, was yet to fulfil its promise to provide a new transformer to
the area.
The community leaders lamented that businesses, particularly, those
belonging to small and medium scale owners and artisans like barbers,
hairdressers, pepper grinders, restaurateurs, among others, had suffered
due to the persistent power outage.
They also said that the incessant power supply had increased cases of
armed robbery and burglary cases in the area, adding that social life
had already been destroyed.
