Saw Mill, Olaiya, and other communities lament Power Outage in Ilorin.

Residents of New Deeper Life, Olaiya and Saw Mill communities in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State have cried out over incessant electricity power supply  in the area.

The people, who spoke with Community News, appealed to relevant authorities to provide them with immediate succour to ensure security of lives and property, as well as promote socio-economic life in the area.

The residents, who said they had been in perpetual darkness for the past one month, added that the power supply problem was caused by faulty transformer which supply electricity to the communities.

The people also said that the transformer serving the communities was overloaded and called on the management of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to come to their assistance.

Two of the community leaders in the area, Alhaji Dauda Ilobu and Alhaji Hammed Olanrewaju, said despite series of requests made for a new  transformer, the state government, through the Commissioner for Energy, was yet to fulfil its promise to provide a new transformer to the area.

The community leaders lamented that businesses, particularly, those belonging to small and medium scale owners and artisans like barbers, hairdressers, pepper grinders, restaurateurs, among others, had suffered due to the persistent power outage.

They also said that the incessant power supply had increased cases of armed robbery and burglary cases in the area, adding that social life had already been destroyed.
